The
very well kept Orinoquia Lodge is located less than half an hour south
from Puerto Ayacucho, the capital of the Venezuelan Amazon, wedged between
the Atures and Maipures rapids of the South American countrys longest
river, the Orinoco. One of the best lodges in Venezuela, the 5 acres complex
is built on a huge granite rock and following the traditional indigenous
churuata style using local materials such as palm leaves,
wood and adobe. The lodge only has 10 comfortable and attractive double
and triple huts with spacious private bathrooms. The cabins are ready
with fans, electric lights and mosquito nets and provide access to the
gardens and the riverbanks in a privileged site pleasantly incorporated
to the surrounding jungle nature. The major churuata provides the dining
room, the lounge and the bar where a collection of books is available
for visitors interested in the wildlife, plants and Indian cultures of
the Venezuelan Amazon region.
All inclusive vacation packages including transfers, accommodations, meals and excursions are offered to ensure an enjoyable stay. Different half and full day trips are available from the lodge and include the Indian handicraft market in Puerto Ayacucho, Piedra de la Tortuga, two huge, black granite boulders, Tobogan de la Selva, a natural 262 feet long water toboggan, Piedra Pintada, an enormous boulder full of pre Columbian petroglyphs including Venezuela's largest, Isla Guajibo, a full day by motorboat that includes visiting a Curripaco Indian village. Lots of beautiful places good for swimming are close to the camp and a thrilling rafting excursion on the Atures Rapids of the Orinoco River can be booked as well. Laundry service is on hand.
